It was a wreck that shook the automotive world as it happened. The RTR Mustang piloted by Irish pro drifter James Deane seen flying through the air, with it's roof sliding along the catch fence at Formula DRIFT Irwindale, is a sight few of us will ever forget - it's likely the biggest and most exciting wreck in Formula DRIFT in the past several years. The incident came as a result of Matt Field's Corvette crashing into the side of Deane's RTR Mustang, sending his front end into the wall as his rear tire climbed up Field's front tire. The combined impacts sent the Mustang airborne and sideways right in front of the crowded bleachers and the catch fence. ɬ's Kevin Darwish, a fellow professional drifter, interviewed Deane about the incident at SEMA 2023.
